How To Apply

Hydro Shield is simple and easy to apply and can be applied by anyone on their driveway with the correct safety equipment. We recommend at least some drive on ramps or axle stands with the vehicle securely raised with certified equipment by trained professionals. If a suitable vehicle lift is available then this would also be a viable option. When Hydro Shield is applied the correct PPE has to be worn such as hand, face and respiratory protection. When preparing and cleaning the underside of your vehicle correct PPE has to be worn also depending on de greaser and other products used.

Step 1:

Raise your vehicle so it is securely lifted with certified equipment and have it inspected by a trained professional.

Step 2:

Thoroughly clean the underside of your vehicle, we recommend at least a jet wash, scrubbing brushes and a degreaser. First power wash the underside, then spray the degreaser and scrub any accessible areas with a brush. Finally power wash the underside again thoroughly rinsing off any degreaser and dirt. If possible use compressed air to aid the initial drying by blowing off any excess water making sure to blow out any trapped water.

Step 3:

Once the underside is completely dry (we recommend at least 24 - 48 hours depending on ambient temprature) then it is time to apply Hydro Shield coating. Make sure you are happy the underside is completely dry and there are no wet areas. Once the area is completely dry then use the spray bottle applicator to spray on the product. A single coating to each area is all that is needed. You do not need to heavily coat the areas as this will not benefit the amount of protection and will only delay the curing time. Please see videos on applying Hydro Shield, if an excess amount of product is left on the underside after 2 hours then the excess can be wiped off with a clean microfibre towel to aid the drying time. Hydro Shield needs a minimum of 24 hours to set depending on ambient temperature but may take up to 5 days to fully harden depending on variables. After 24 hours the vehicle will be fine to drive.

Questions & Answers

What if I haven't cleaned the underside properly?

We always recommend that you are completely happy with the surface before applying. Like any coating its always in the prep, if you have applied the coating you can clean the underside again and re apply.

Why does it feel greasy after 24 hours?

Don't worry, you can wipe off the excess with a clean microfibre cloth to aid the drying time, this wont affect the protection properties.

Is it safe on rubbers and plastics?

Yes Hydro Shield is completely safe to use on plastics and rubbers. We wouldn't necessarily recommend to use on rubber as Hydro Shield creates a hard surface which will restrict the rubber from moving as its designed to however if some gets onto the rubber it won't damage it.

Where can Hydro Shield be applied?

Hydro Shield can be applied on under trays and wheel arch trims to help keep them clean from driving as well as all the chassis / under body, subframes, control arms and even brake callipers and inner wheel barrels.

What if I run out of Hydro Shield while applying?

No problem, just order the required amount and keep re applying when it arrives from where you left off as long as the surface is still clean and dry (do not drive until coating is fully applied).

Is any maintenence needed for Hydro Shield?

No maintenance is need for Hydro Shield, we do recommend however that you should pressure wash the underside of your car regularly or after a couple thousand miles just to keep your ride in the best condition possible. Hydro Shield will help stop dirt and salts clinging to your vehicles underbody and will also help it wash right off.

How long does Hydro Shield last?

Hydro Shield lasts anywhere from 1 to 3 years depending on: how well the under side was prepared before application, curing process and the environment the vehicle is driven in and how many miles the vehicle has done,

When should I re apply Hydro Shield?

After 1 year spray some water on the underside of your car, if you think the hydrophobic properties of Hydro Shield have worn off or is not working as good as before then its time to re apply Hydro Shield. When re applying follow the same steps for applying Hydro Shield for the first time.
